Grand Gaube is a town located in the Rivière du Rempart District, northern Mauritius. It lies on the coast of the Indian Ocean. In the 60’s and 70’s its population consisted exclusively of Mauritian Creoles and Indo-Mauritians, with the exception of a handful of Franco-Mauritians and three Chinese families. The town has two harbors, one is by the St Michel R C A School and the other is in Melville, another ward of the town. You will get all amenities in this nice part of the island , with some nice hotels . Sometimes the villages organised ‘regat’ which is like light boat competition.

Grand Gaube, about 4 miles (6km) east of Cap Malheureux. The town remains a tiny fishing village with a good beach. Beyond the small rocky bays of Grande Gaube there are almost no beaches until a long way down the east coast, making any trip beyond here an illuminating glimpse into traditional Mauritian life without the tourists. In 1744 the St Géran foundered off Grand Gaube in a storm, inspiring the famous love story Paul et Virginie by Bernardin de St-Pierre.
